Arrival in Shizuoka! |
The sign in the railway station tells us we have arrived! |
We stroll through the Shizuoka Terminal. |
Our first glimpse at our new home! |
Yokiko explains procedures and tells us where to meet for lunch. |
We deposit the carry-on baggage. Most of our luggage has been brought by truck and will be delivered to the room. |
A fabulous buffet was waiting for us at the hotel. We were ready! |
We had a bird's eye view of the rail terminal from the restaurant. The bullet train and local lines both run these lines. |
Our tables looked elegant. |
Dessert was fabulous. Who said they don't do dessert much in Japan? |
After lunch, we had a few minutes to stretch our legs before boarding the bus for a brief tour. Stretching legs means SHOPPING to me, so I hit the streets. |
The railroad terminal has a grocery store and department store inside. I decided to buy some fruit for a midnight snack. It was GREAT! |
I think this travel agency display is as close to Tokyo Disneyland as I will get! |
It was fun to see some familiar things: Mentos in both English and Japanese..... |
Baskin Robbins! |
Aaaaahh! Diet Coke!! No matter how much yen, worth the price. |
It's time to gather together for the tour. Yokiko counts heads... |
We board the bus for a tour of a shrine at Kunozan Toshogu. |
As we climb up towards the shrine, we pass through Shizuoka City. We decided the tour bus was too big for the drive-through. |
We can see why Shizuoka is known for its green tea. We see it growing everywhere! |
We know we are reaching the top of a mountain when we see this many communications towers. |
We reach the end of the road after many hairpin turns. |
As we wait for our turn to ride the gondola to the shrine, we stop for... well you know. We had no choice but to use the Japanese facilities!! |
The gondola has arrived and waits for us! |
We need to squish in. No room to move once we are all aboard! |
