It's Friday, and everyone is in a rush, except perhaps these school girls. They are easy to notice because of the uniforms. We are at the Ueno station, where there is a park, shopping area, and connections to many different rail lines. |
This Hello Kitty store features candies and sweet snacks. (Kitties are good!) |
Ueno Park is a place of beauty and activity. There are traditional buildings |
..and BASEBALL! |
We made our way to the Tokyo National Museum. |
The museum houses many beautiful artifacts from Japan's ancient history. These lacquer boxes are exquisite! |
Several scrolls were carefully displayed. Notice the beautiful fabric and the long glass paperweight. |
Several historic swords were displayed. |
There were several Buddhist and Shinto artifacts. |
Samurai armor of different regions look like they are still protecting the Emperor. |
Despite their age, these ancient kimono are still elegant. About the time I hit this room, security guards were gently guiding us to the door, since it was nearly the 5:00 p.m. closing time. |
We spent a little time in the Ueno shooping district. Notice the cloth banner that hangs over the doorway. |
As darkness approaches, it is time to go back down to the
subway to travel to the Kabuki theater. |
We see the Kabuki Theater immediately after walking up the steps from the subway. The theater has a gazillion signs against photography during the performance. The theater itself was beautiful and ornate, inside and out, and the performance was beautiful. (although no English translation was available.) |
Speaking of theater, we were amused by this poster... written entirely in Japanese! |
