As we wind up and around mountains leaving Mishima, we can catch glimpses of Mt. Fuji. |
We stop at Hakone. We are told when to arrive at the dock to ride the pleasure cruise to the ropeway. It looks like it could be a reeeaally long swim if we miss the boat, so we try to be prompt! |
Hakone was a major route to Tokyo, so was an important location for a checkpoint during 17th century Shogunate eras. |
As we walk by the reconstructed checkpoint station, we can see displays through the windows. |
After you view the displays, an explanation is given in both Japanese and English. I am impressed how tourist-friendly this site is! We also visit a museum which contains historical artifacts, including Samurai weapons and armor, scrolls with drawings of tortures and punishments, maps of all the checkpoints, and more. We were not allowed to take photographs at the museum. |
We walk along the sights along the shore front, and can catch spectacular views of the lake and Mt. Fuji between the trees. |
We have all taken the advice to be prompt seriously, and wait on the dock for the tour boat. |
You get a bunch of tourists together, and SOMEONE has to do this! What else are you going to do while you are waiting?!? |
Oh, boy! We have our tickets, and our boat is arriving! |
Our boat is secured to the dock before we are allowed to board. |
Of course, we climb clear up to the top deck for the cruise. Windy, of course, but oh-so-scenic! |
Oh, yeah! We've made it to the top!! |
Yukiko joins us, and continues to give us background information on all that we see. |
